Yesterday we went to a park in downtown McKinney to pick up some trash around the park and ball fields. Before we went, we talked to the boys about what we were going to do. We explained that we were helping out the city in picking up the trash and it would help the environment. We told them it would feel good to help out. We also told them we would be getting some tickets to Disneyland for helping out. Landon wanted to know how long we had to clean up for. We told him it was for 2 hours.
Well on the way to the park, our future CFO's head was turning. Landon wanted to know how much it cost to go to Disneyland. He was trying to figure out if these two hours were going to be worth it to him - guess the talk on how good it would make him feel didn't set in. :-) When we related it to him in the amount of months of allowance it would take him to earn a ticket to Disneyland, he was okay with the couple of hours.
It was a good experience for our family. We did feel good after doing the service. It was a good reminder that we can get out and do small things to help the community - it doesn't always have to monumental.
